Track and field teams compete at 12th Annual Dick Small Invitational
The Olivet College men’s and women’s track and field teams began the outdoor portion of their schedule today by competing at the 12th Annual Dick Small Invitational, which was hosted by Defiance (Ohio) College.
The Olivet College men's and women's track and field teams began the outdoor portion of their schedule today by competing at the 12th Annual Dick Small Invitational, which was hosted by Defiance (Ohio) College.
On the men's side, the Comets recorded seven top-five finishes. The highest finisher was sophomore Lonnie White (Battle Creek/Central), who won the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.10 seconds. His time was .75 seconds faster than the runner-up finisher.
Other top-five finishers on the track included freshman Dante Carroll (Capital Heights, Md./Fairmont Heights) and senior DeShaun Warren (Detroit/Denby). Carroll tied for fourth-place in the 400-meter dash (:51.30), while Warren was third in the 100-meter dash (:11.54).
In field events, senior Robert Horton (Charlotte) had a pair of top-five finishes. He was third in the discus throw (41.04 meters) and fourth in the shot put (13.60 meters). Freshman Brandon Satterfield (Battle Creek/Central) finished in a four-way tie for fourth-place in the high jump (1.82 meters). Junior John Zenner (Kingsley) claimed a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (11.83 meters).
On the women's side, Olivet had four top-finishers – one in running events and three in field events. On the track, sophomore Amy Johnson (Gaylord) clocked-in at 1:05.11 in the 400-meter dash to finish in fifth-place.
Freshman Kelsey Gordon (Vandalia/Cassopolis) was fourth in the high jump (1.42 meters). In the javelin, senior Courtney Ivan (Belleville) and sophomore Tonia Flanagan (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) placed third and fifth, respectively. Ivan tossed the javelin 31.83 meters, while Flanagan had a 26.83 meter toss.
The Comets are back in action Wednesday, March 28, when it travels to Adrian College for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association double dual meet against the Bulldogs and Tri-State (Ind.) University. The meet will be held at Lenawee Christian School, beginning at 2 p.m.
