Men’s and women’s track and field teams beat Adrian, lose to Hope
The Olivet College men’s and women’s track and field teams each split a pair of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meets today in Adrian. The men’s team beat the host Bulldogs, 123-50, and lost to Hope College, 114.5-77.5. The women’s team also defeated Adrian, 102-23, and fell to Hope, 124-57.

On the men's side, Olivet had four first-place, four second-place and five third-place finishes. Taking first-place were freshman Raynar Hamilton (Jackson), 100-meter dash (:10.6); junior Randy Place (Bellevue), 400-meter dash (:50.6); and junior Lonnie White (Battle Creek/Central), 110-meter high hurdles (:15.5). The 4x100-meter relay was also victorious with a time of 43.8 seconds.
The second-place finishes were by sophomore Joel Gyomory (North Branch), high jump (6'2"); freshman Thomas Ray (Constantine), 3,000-meter run (9:42.1); and sophomore John Zenner (Kingsley), pole vault (12'6"). The 4x400-meter relay was second with a time of 3:36.1.
On the track, Ray and White were third in the 5,000-meter run and 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Third-place finishes in the field events were by Zenner, triple jump (37'9"); junior Bobby Horton (Charlotte), shot put (43'3"); and freshman Nick Wolf (Olivet), long jump (18'7").
The women's team split was bolstered by three first-place, four runner-up and two third-place finishes. Taking top honors were freshman Mackenzie Heator (Union City), long jump (14'10.50"); junior Courtney Ivan (Belleville), javelin (110'8"); and freshman Tonia Ramsey (Battle Creek/Harper Creek), shot put (32'5.50").
Sophomore Hannah Robbins (Marshall) was second in both the 100- and 400-meter hurdles with times of 17.4 second and 1:14.3, respectively. The 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays took second-place with times of 55.8 and 4:40.6. Claiming third-place finishes were freshman Tami Cahow (Climax/Climax-Scotts), 400-meter hurdles (1:15.3) and sophomore Donna Cripe (Vermontville/Maple Valley), 200-meter dash (28.3).
All of the times mentioned in this story are hand times. There was a malfunction with the fully automatic time gun, and the head coaches agreed to use hand times for all events.
The Comets will wrap-up their MIAA regular season with a double dual meet Saturday, April 22, at Albion College. Defending MIAA champion Calvin College will be the other participating team. The 2006 MIAA Field Day is Thursday and Friday, May 4-5 at Albion College.
