Track/field teams finish in fifth-place at 2005 MIAA Field Day
The men’s and women’s track/field teams finished in fifth-place at the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day, which was hosted by Hope College.
The men’s and women’s track/field teams finished in fifth-place at the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day, which was hosted by Hope College. The Lady Comets tallied 25 points to finish three points ahead of Adrian College and eight points ahead of Tri-State (Ind.) University. The Fighting Comets had 28.5 points, which was 2.5 points more than Tri-State and 18.5 points more than Adrian.
In today’s finals, freshmen Donna Cripe (Vermontville/Maple Valley) and Hannah Robbins (Marshall) each had a pair of top-eight finishes. Cripe was fourth in the 100-meter dash (:13.46) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (:28.11). Robbins placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.01) and seventh in the 100-meter low hurdles (17.24).
Also on the track, Olivet’s 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays clocked in with season-best times of :53.80 and 4:33.12, respectively. Sophomore Kristy Zenner (Kingsley) had the Lady Comets’ only top-eight finish in the field events. She was fourth yesterday in the discus throw with a 122 feet, 3 inch toss.
On the men’s side, junior Randy Place (Bellevue) moved up two spots from his qualifying spot to finish fourth in the 400-meter dash (:50.27). Olivet’s 4x400-meter relay placed third (3:29.29) while the 4x400-meter relay was fifth (:44.58).
In field events, freshman Joel Gyoromy (North Branch) tied with three others, clearing the bar at an even six foot. After factoring in the number of attempts to clear the bar, he ended up in a tie for fifth-place. In yesterday’s action, freshman John Zenner (Kingsley) placed third in the pole vault with a 12 feet, 11.75 inches vault.
In addition, sophomores Josh Beischer (Capac) and Robert Horton (Charlotte) took seventh and eight-place, respectively, in the shot put. Beischer’s throw was 45 feet, 1 inch. Horton had a 43 feet, 3.75 inch toss.
