Track/field teams lose to Alma and Calvin
The men’s and women’s track/field teams participated in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) double dual meet today at Calvin College. The women’s team dropped a 126-30 decision to the host Knights and a 116-38 decision to Alma College. The men’s team suffered a 145-36 loss to Calvin and a 109-59 loss to Alma.

Freshman Hannah Robbins (Marshall) had the only first-place finish for the Lady Comets. She won the 400-meter hurdles with a time 1:15.95.
Second-place finishes were by freshman Donna Cripe (Vermontville/Maple Valley) and sophomore Kristy Zenner (Kingsley). Cripe missed breaking the school-record in the 100-meter dash by .04 seconds as she clocked in at 13.43 seconds. Zenner had a 124 foot toss in the discus throw. Sophomore Gina Hilgendorf (Capac) was third in the javelin (83’8”).
Olivet also had one first-place finish on the men’s side. Freshman Joel Gyoromy (North Branch) captured first-place in the high jump. He cleared the bar at 6 feet, 2 inches.
Freshman Bryan Bonner (Mt. Clemens) and Jerry Fields (Mount Morris) were second and third, respectively in the 100-mater dash. Bonner finished in 11.59 seconds while Fields clocked in at 11.62 seconds. Fields was third in the long jump with 19’8.50” leap. Junior Randy Place (Bellevue) placed second in the 400-meter dash (:54.00).
The Comets will travel to Adrian College next Saturday, April 23, for a MIAA double dual with the Bulldogs and Tri-State (Ind.) University.
