Track/field teams open 2005 season at Dick Small Invitational
The outdoor track/field teams competed today at the 10th annual Dick Small Invitational hosted by Defiance (Ohio) College. The invitational was the 2005 outdoor season-opener for the Comets. The weather conditions were cold with snow and rain.

The mens team finished in fourth-place with 73.5 points. Leading the way for Olivet was sophomore Robert Horton (Charlotte), who was first in the shot put (47'6.50") and discus (1374). Finishing in third-place were sophomore Josh Beischer (Capac) in the shot put (43'11.75") and sophomore Andy Weiss (Fremont) in the triple jump (3310).
Sophomore Robert Banks (Detroit/Benedictine) was fourth in the long jump (147.25). Fifth-place finishes were by freshman Joel Gyomory (North Branch) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.90) and junior Jeremy Shephard (Kalamazoo/Mattawan) in the 5,000-meter run (17:12.90).
On the womens side, sophomore Kristy Zenner (Kingsley) placed second in the shot put (355.25) and fifth in the discus (958). Also finishing in fifth was freshman Donna Cripe (Vermontville/Maple Valley) in the 200-meter dash (:28.40).
The Comets are next in action Saturday, April 2, when they participate in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Triangular with Albion and Hope colleges in Albion.
