Track and field teams lose to Alma and Albion in MIAA double dual meet
The Olivet College men’s and women’s outdoor track/field teams competed this afternoon in a double dual meet at Alma College. The Fighting Comets lost, 97-64, to Alma and 141-33 against Albion. The Lady Comets fell 142-20 and 135.5-33.5 to Alma and Albion, respectively.

On the men’s side, senior Josh Toussaint (Lansing Sexton High School) led the way with a pair of second-place finishes. He was clocked in with times of 11.27 seconds in 100-meter dash and 22.74 seconds in the 200-meter dash. The 4x100-meter relay was second with a time of 45.40 seconds.
The Comets had three other athletes finish third in an event. Sophomore Jeremy Shephard (Kalamazoo Mattawan High School) completed the 3000-meter run in 16:30.40. Sophomore Mick Faasen (Belding High School) had a 19’3” long jump leap, and freshman Robert Horton, Jr. (Charlotte High School) threw the discus 140’2.50”.
The women also recorded three third-place finishes. In running events, sophomore Rebecca Dawson (Williamsburg/Elk Rapids High School) was clocked in at 11:30.01 in the 3000-meter run. Senior Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) cleared the bar at 4’8” in the high jump. Sophomore Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genessee High School) threw the javelin 97’2”.
Olivet will next compete in another MIAA double dual on Wednesday, April 14, at Calvin College with Hope College. Action begins at 2 p.m.
