Outdoor Track and Field Teams Compete Against Albion College
The Olivet College men's and women's outdoor track and field team fell to Albion College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet today at Calvin College.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's outdoor track and field team fell to Albion College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet today at Calvin College.
Junior Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) led the Lady Comets with a first-place finish in the javelin (99'2") and a third-place finish in the high jump (4'6"). Junior Lindsay Olds (Hartford High School) was second in the javelin (96'6") and freshman Bethany VanHaitsma (Marion High School) was fourth in the javelin (89'3").
In other field events, freshman Deanna Thompson (Howard City/Tri-County High School) tied the school record with a third-place finish in the pole vault (8'0"). She and VanHaitsma set the record on April 12. Freshman Michele Michalek (Stanton/Central Montcalm High School) was fourth in the discus (95'8").
On the track, freshman Rebecca Dawson (Elk Rapids High School) finished in seventh in the 5,000-meter run (20:44).
The Fighting Comets were led by freshman Ryan Newberry (South Haven High School). He was fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.55), sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.45) and sixth in the high jump (5'6"). Senior Benji Garza (Holland High School) finished in fifth in the javelin (154'6").
In addition, freshman Dan Kimball (National City High School) was fifth in the 1,500-meter run (4:22), sophomore Kevin Kreh (Kinde/ Huron High School) was sixth in the 800-meter run (2:03.8) and freshman Jeremy Shephard (Mattawan High School) was seventh in the 1,500-meter run (4:32).
The Comets will next be in action on Thursday-Saturday, April 24-26, when they compete at the Hillsdale College "Gina" Relays. Action will begin at 10 a.m.
