Outdoor Track and Field Teams Open MIAA Season with Losses Against Adrian
The Olivet College men's and women's outdoor track and field team opened the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association portion of their schedule today with losses against Adrian College. Despite having eight first-place finishes, the Fighting Comets fell 82-71. The Lady Comets had three first-place finishes, and lost 123-29.
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's outdoor track and field team opened the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association portion of their schedule today with losses against Adrian College. Despite having eight first-place finishes, the Fighting Comets fell 82-71. The Lady Comets had three first-place finishes, and lost 123-29.
In field events, freshman Joe Cox (Muskegon/Orchard View High School) won the shot put (43'0.50"), senior Benji Garza (Holland High School) captured the javelin (156'6") and senior Trent Harvey (Charlotte/Maple Valley High School) was first in the discus (137'0.75").
This trio combined to finish in the top three in each of these field events. Cox was third in both the javelin and discus, Garza was second in both the shot put and discus and Harvey was second in the javelin and third in the shot put.
In running events, sophomore Chad Kaiser (Alpena High School) won the 3,000-meter run (10:15.40), freshman Dan Kimball (National City High School) captured the 1,500-meter run (4:41.20), sophomore Kevin Kreh (Kinde/Huron High School) was first in the 800-meter run (2:15.40), senior Steve Szokola (Marysville High School) won the 5,000-meter run (17:15.90) and sophomore Josh Toussaint (Lansing/ Sexton High School) finished first in the 100-meter dash (11.56 seconds).
Junior Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) was first in the javelin (86'11") and third in the long jump (14'5.05"). Junior Lindsay Olds (Hartford High School) won the 800-meter run (2:41.90) and finished in second in the javelin (86'1"). Freshman Rebecca Dawson (Elk Rapids High School) captured the 5,000-meter run (22:07.30).
The Comets will next be in action on Saturday, April 12, when they travel to Alma to compete in a MIAA dual meet against Alma and Hope. Action will begin at 12 noon.
