Outdoor Track and Field Teams Compete at the Alma College Invitational
The Olivet College men's and women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Alma College Invitational. The Lady Comets were second out of three teams with 57 points. The Fighting Comets had 46 points to finish in third out of four schools
ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Alma College Invitational. The Lady Comets were second out of three teams with 57 points. The Fighting Comets had 46 points to finish in third out of four schools.
Leading the way for the Lady Comets was junior Lindsay Olds (Hartford High School) and freshman Amanda Gasaway (Macatawa/Holland High School). Olds was first in the 800-meter run (2:34.1) and second in the javelin (95'8"). Gasaway finished in second in both the shot put (31'7.25") and discus (86'2.25").
In addition, freshman Michelle Michalek (Stanton/Central Macomb High School) was was first in the discus (102'3"). Junior Bethany Poyer (Olivet/Maple Valley High School) finished in second in the 100-meter dash (14.23 seconds). The Olivet women also had nine third place finsihes.
Senior Benji Garza (Holland High School) led the Fighting Comets with two second place finishes. He threw the javelin 156'7" and the discus 123'7.25". Senior Trent Harvey (Charlotte/Maple Valley High School) was first in the discus (129'10.25") and freshman Joe Cox (Muskegon/Orchard View High School) was second in the shot put (42'3.25").
Sophomore Chad Kaiser (Alpena High School) finished in first in the 3000-meter run (10:01.30) and junior Bryan Gilreath (East Lansing High School) was second in the triple jump (38'6.50"). The 4x100-meter relay was second, and the men had two third place finishes.
The Comets will next be in action on Saturday, April 5, when they compete in their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet at Adrian College. Action will begin at 12 noon.
