Men's swimming and diving team beats Ohio Northern, 174-62
The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team captured first-place in every event en-route to a 174-62 victory over non-league conference foe Ohio Northern University this afternoon at Hillsdale College.
The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team captured first-place in every event en-route to a 174-62 victory over non-league conference foe Ohio Northern University this afternoon at Hillsdale College.
Sophomores Ananta Fetters (Fennville/Holland), Brad Waddell (Holland/West Ottawa) and Andy Weiss (Fremont) and freshman Brian Jaffee (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) were first in two individual events.
Fetters won the 50 freestyle in 22.85 seconds and the 200 butterfly in 2:06.76. Waddell had a first-place time of 10:37.53 in the 1,000 free and broke his own school record by finishing first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.18. Weiss was first in the one- and three-meter diving competitions with scores of 222.65 and 220.85, respectively. Jaffee swam to first-place finishes in the 400 individual medley (4:33.00) and 500 freestyle (4:57.09).
Sophomore Levi Yockey (Phoenix, Ariz./North) won the 200 freestyle in 1:52.64. Olivet claimed the top three spots in the 50 freestyle with sophomore Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico) leading the way in 50.70 seconds. Freshman Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason) set a school record by just .02 seconds in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.49).
The 400 medley relay team of Jaffee, sophomore Jon Cox (Battle Creek/Lakeview) and freshmen Mitch Powers (Kalamazoo Central) and Koji Takahashi (Etobicoke, Ontario/Silver Thorn CI) was first in 3:46.56. Meisner, Mitch Powers, Yockey along with junior Matt Powers (Kalamazoo/Central) won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:25.28.
Olivet will travel to Crawfordsville, Indiana next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19-20, to participate in the annual Wabash College Invitational.
