OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Matt Meldrum (Chesterfield Twp./Anchor Bay) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week for men's soccer.
Meldrum played a strong defensive game in leading the Comets to a 2-1 win over North Park (Ill.) University Sept. 14 at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. He also scored the game-winning goal with 3:24 remaining in the game. For the season, Meldrum has played in all five games, collecting two goals for four points.
"It was a fantastic solo effort from Matt to get his second goal of the season," said Olivet Head Coach Dan Bulley. "Sometimes big games call for something special and this goal was certainly special. Overall, I hope this win against a Top 25 team will spark a good run from my team."
Meldrum and the Comets open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play tomorrow with a 4 p.m. game at Albion College.
