The Olivet College men's soccer team opened the 2007 season with a 2-1 loss against Madonna University today in Olivet.
The Crusaders (1-1-1) led 2-0 at halftime behind a goal by Mark Pikula in the 25th minute and a goal by Darrel Quinn in the 41st minute. The Comets (0-1) made the score 2-1 with a goal at the 69:19 mark. Freshman Mike May (Mason) found the back, right corner of the net off a pass from junior Graham Lockwood (Haslett/Williamston).
For the game, Olivet out-shot Madonna, 13-12. May led the Comet offense with seven shots, including three on-goal. Freshmen Bernardo Mandijuno (Holt) and Matt Manning (Charlotte) each took two shots. In goal, sophomore Ethan Felsing (Mason) made seven saves.
The Comets are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. when they host Denison (Ohio) University. Denison defeated Albion College, 1-0, in overtime today at Alumni Field in Albion.
