Men's lacrosse: Badder, Borek and McGee named All-MIAA
Three Olivet College men’s lacrosse players -- junior Dakota Badder, senior Kyle Borek and junior Ryan McGee -- have been named to the 2015 All-MIAA second-team.
FREELAND, Mich. – Three Olivet College men's lacrosse players -- junior Dakota Badder, senior Kyle Borek and junior Ryan McGee -- have been named to the 2015 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) second-team. All-league honors are based on a player's statistics during the six-game conference schedule.
Under the tutelage of third-year head coach Adam Hague, Olivet has a 5-9 overall record and placed fourth in the MIAA standings with a 3-3 record. In addition, the Comets have advanced to the MIAA Tournament semifinals for a second straight season and will face Albion College tonight at 5 p.m
Badder was among the MIAA leaders in total assists (tied for fifth, eight), assists per game (tied for sixth, 1.33), total points (tied for sixth, 21), and points per game (tied for eighth, 3.50). He also led the league by scoring the game-winning goal in each of Olivet's three wins. For the entire 14-game schedule, Badder leads the team in scoring (51 points), goals (34), assists (17) and shots attempted (92).
"Dakota is our leading goal scorer this season," said Hague. "He manages to get to net even when he is covered by the other teams best defensemen. Dakota is a very dynamic player, ashe can score and also leads our team in assists."
Borek played in all six games on defense for the Comets, recording 12 caused turnovers and 17 ground balls. A 2014 second-team All-MIAA pick, he has played in 12 total games, with 24 caused turnovers and 34 groundballs.
"Kyle is a senior leader and our most consistent defenseman," stated Hague. "He has been put in charge of covering the other teams leading scorers all season. Kyle is a threat everywhere on the field at close defense, LSM and even netting a goal in trasition."
McGee saw action between the pipes in all six games, logging 331 minutes and posting a 10.86 goals against average (GAA). He collected 71 total saves, including a single-game school record 21 at Alma College. McGee has been in goal for 12 games and played almost 628 minutes, allowing 128 goals for a 12.23 GAA. He has 134 saves and a 51.1 save percentage.
"Ryan has done a great job in net," said Hague. "He has played a major role in our success this year, keeping us in big games and leading our defense. Ryan is the heart and soul of our defense. He is who the players look to in a pinch."
