Men’s lacrosse team lets halftime lead slip away in 12-10 loss at BW
The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team held a 6-4 halftime lead at Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University before the Yellow Jackets rallied in the second half to beat the Comets, 12-10, today on Tressel Field and inside The George Finnie Stadium in Berea, Ohio.

BW took a 1-0 lead only 19 seconds into the game. Olivet scored three straight goals, including two straight by sophomore James Collins (Lowell) to take a 3-1 lead after one quarter of play. Collins scored his third goal early in the second period to make the score 4-1.
The Yellow Jackets responded with three consecutive goals to knot the score at 4-4. The Comets answered with two goals to take a 6-4 lead at halftime.
BW scored a goal on four of its first five shots to start the third quarter for an 8-6 lead. Olivet battled back to tie the game, 8-8, before the Yellow Jackets scored one more time in the stanza to take a 9-8 lead entering the final 15 minutes of the game.
BW gained its two-goal lead with a goal off the opening faceoff of the fourth quarter. Undeterred, the Comets scored two man-up goals to cause a 10-10 tie. The Yellow Jackets scored what proved to be the game-winner only 16 seconds after Olivet's last goal. BW added an insurance goal in the final minute of play.
Collins finished the game with five goals on a team-high 12 shots, placing five on-goal. Sophomore Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens) had two goals and one assist for three points. Sophomore Jack Ranson (Nobleton, Ontario/St. Michael's Catholic) netted two goals. Freshman Tyler Polendo (Battle Creek/Lakeview) finished with a team-leading two assists.
Junior Ryan McGee (Traverse City/Central) played all 60 minutes in goal, recording 13 saves on 25 BW shots.
The Comets continue their spring break trip Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. game at Randolph (Va.) College.
