Men’s golf battles rain and wind to finish in seventh at Knight Invite
The Olivet College men’s golf team battled rain at the beginning and high winds throughout the event to finish in seventh-place today at the Calvin College Knight Invite at the Pilgrim’s Run Golf Course in Pierson.
PIERSON, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team battled rain at the beginning and high winds throughout the event to finish in seventh-place today at the Calvin College Knight Invite at the Pilgrim's Run Golf Course in Pierson.
The Comets posted a 341 team score. Cornerstone University captured the team title with a 329, while the host Knights were second at 331. Four strokes separated third through sixth-place. Trinity Christian (Ill.) College was third at 335, followed by Davenport University, 337; Trine (Ind.) University, 338; and Albion College, 339. Graham Bennett from Trine was the tournament medalist with a four-over par 77.
Leading the way for the Comets was junior Justin Ardelean (Owosso), who tied for sixth-place in the player standings with an 81. Freshman Tylar Blosfield (Valparaiso, Ind.) completed his round in 85 strokes. Junior Nick Julian (Clinton Township/Chippewa Valley) and senior Cameron Sich (Saginaw/Frankenmuth) were next at 87 and 88, respectively. Junior Ronnie Fesko (Henderson/Owosso) shot an 89.
Olivet will conclude the MIAA portion of its schedule Thursday and Friday when it plays in the final two rounds of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association playoff at the Wuskowhan Players Club in West Olive. The school with the lowest cumulative total will receive the MIAA's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships. Hope College won the first round last Saturday.
