Men’s golf team finishes in tie for third-place at Lou Collins Memorial Tournament
The Olivet College men’s golf team finished in a tie for third-place at the 2009 O.C. Lou Collins Memorial Tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. The tournament was named in honor of Collins, a longtime supporter of the Olivet men’s golf program. Collins passed away Sept. 3.

The Comets posted a two-round total of 607 strokes (297-310) to tie Albion College. Indiana Wesleyan University led the 16-team field with a two-round total of 580 strokes (291-289). Madonna University was second at 583 (294-289). The rest of the top 10 was Wheaton (Ill.) College, 609=301-308; Owens (Ohio) Community College, 610=307-303; Trine University, 612=310-302; Hope College, 612=305-307; and Spring Arbor University, 614=309-305; Calvin College, 614=304-310.
Senior Luke Godin (Barrie, Ontario/Innisdale Secondary) finished with a two-round total of 145 strokes (71-74). Sophomore Grant Spencer (Olivet) had a 153 (72-81). Junior Cameron LaFountain (Marshall) completed his two rounds in 156 strokes (75-81). Freshman Tyler Parkin (Alanson/Harbor Springs) was a stroke behind with a 157 (79-78). Junior Nick Harless (DeWitt) shaved six strokes off his first round with a 77 today to total 160 strokes.
The Comets will now begin defense of their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship next Tuesday, Sept. 8. They will return to Bedford Valley for the first of eight league jamborees.
