Men’s basketball team falls to Albion, 77-55
The Olivet College men’s basketball team was beaten by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College, 77-55, this afternoon at Kresge Gymnasium in Albion.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team was beaten by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College, 77-55, this afternoon at Kresge Gymnasium in Albion.
The Britons built a 12-point lead, 24-12, with 12:24 left in the first half. Sophomore Eddie Rogers (Saginaw/Carrollton) hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut the Comets' deficit in half. Another three-pointer by Rogers at the 5:35 mark trimmed the Albion lead down to three points, 31-28.
After the Britons a free throw before a basket by junior Blake Krum (Schoolcraft) converted a fast break layup to make the score 32-30 with 3:28 remaining in the half. Albion scored the final five points of the opening 20 minutes of play to take a 37-30 lead into the locker rooms.
The Britons continued their run to start the second half, scoring the first six points for a 43-30 lead. Albion's lead stayed in double figures for the rest of the game and grew to as many as 24 points.
In defeat, Rogers led all scorers with 19 points. Making his first collegiate start, freshman Garrett Miller (Vermontville/Maple Valley) scored 15 points on five three-pointers. Krum had 11 points to go along with six assists. Freshman R.J. Haas (Albion) also grabbed six rebounds.
The Comets will play their final three games of the season next week, beginning Monday night when they host Alma College at 7:30 p.m.
