Men’s basketball team falls to Trine, 61-57
The Olivet College men’s basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Trine (Ind.) University, 61-57, tonight at Hershey Hall in Angola, Ind.
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Trine (Ind.) University, 61-57, tonight at Hershey Hall in Angola, Ind.
The Thunder built a nine-point lead twice in the first half, with the last being 24-15 at the 7:58 mark. The Comets chipped away at their deficit and trailed by only four points, 32-28, at halftime.
Trine continued to lead in the second half until Olivet took its first lead of the game, 39-37, after sophomore T.J. Vondette (Hemlock) made a layup. From there, the Thunder went on a 10-0 run to gain an eight-point lead, 47-39.
The Comets did not give up and were only down one point, 52-51 and 55-54. Trine scored a basket to go up three and then made 4-of-5 free throws in the final 15 seconds to hang onto the win.
Junior Blake Krum (Schoolcraft) came off the bench to score a team-leading 15 points for Olivet. Vondette finished with 10 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Trine's starters combined to 57 of its 61 points. Tyler Good led the way with 19 points. Jared Holmquist posted a double-double, 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Will Dixon added 10 points.
The Comets (3-14, 1-5 MIAA) host Adrian College Saturday afternoon in the second game of a basketball doubleheader at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. Preceding the men's game, the Olivet women play Alma College at 3 p.m.
