Men’s basketball team loses to Indiana Wesleyan, 89-63
The Olivet College men’s basketball team fell to Indiana Wesleyan University, 89-63, tonight at Luckey Arena in Marion, Ind.
MARION, Ind. – The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Indiana Wesleyan University, 89-63, tonight at Luckey Arena in Marion, Ind.
The Wildcats opened the game by scoring the first 14 points and would go on to lead by as many 26 points twice in the first half. The Comets trailed by 24 points, 46-22, at halftime. Olivet cut its deficit down to 17 points on four occasions in the second half, with the last time being 67-50 at the 6:51 mark. IWU then went on a 13-0 run to put the game away.
For the game, the Comets made only 20-of-70 baskets (28.6 percent), while the Wildcats shot 53.2 percent (33-of-62). IWU made one more three-pointer than Olivet, but the Comets made one more free throw. The Wildcats had a +21 advantage in rebounding, pulling down 52 total rebounds.
Freshman Kevin Woodson (Lambertville/Monroe St. Mary Catholic) scored 18 points to lead Olivet. Sophomore T.J. Vondette (Hemlock) joined him in double figures with 16 points, while junior Jordan Union (Jackson) contributed 10 points. Union and junior Alex Mayo (Lake Orion) each grabbed five rebounds
For IWU, RJ Mahurin recorded a double-double, 20 points and 13 rebounds. Three players came off the bench to reach double figures in the scoring column, led by Bob Peters' 14 points. Tyler Greathouse and Lane Mahurin finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Olivet returns home to face Concordia University Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
