Men’s basketball team routs Illinois Tech, 108-50
The Olivet College men’s basketball team used a balanced scoring attack en route to a 108-50 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The 108 points scored is the most for the Comets in a game since Dec. 20, 2011, when they defeated Finlandia University, 105-97.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack en route to a 108-50 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The 108 points scored is the most for the Comets in a game since Dec. 20, 2011, when they defeated Finlandia University, 105-97.
All 15 Olivet players who dressed for the game scored at least two points each, and 13-of-15 players had at least one rebound. Junior Blake Krum (Schoolcraft) was one of four players to reach double figures, scoring a game-high 18 points in only 17 minutes. Freshman Kevin Woodson (Lambertville/Monroe St. Mary Catholic) added 12 points, while senior Jared Kaczmarczyk (Birch Run) contributed a career-high 11 points. Junior Jordan Union (Jackson) finished with 10 points.
Three others each scored eight points. Freshman Robert Shields (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) came off the bench to grab a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman Eric Ewing (Harper Woods/University Liggett) was next with six rebounds, while sophomore T.J. Vondette (Hemlock) had five.
Overall, the Comets shot 48.2 percent (41-of-85) to 38.8 percent (19-of-49) for the Scarlet Hawks, with an 11-2 advantage in made three-pointers. Olivet forced 35 turnovers and made 22 steals off the miscues. The Comets shared the ball well with 17 assists and committed only 10 turnovers.
The score was tied briefly at 2-2. Olivet scored the next 14 points over a two minute and 12 second span. The Comets' 37-point lead, 65-28, at halftime was their largest lead of the opening 20 minutes of play. Olivet's lead grew to as many as 59 points, 100-41, in the second half.
Samuel Rarick had a double-double, 14 points and 12 rebounds, to lead Illinois Tech.
The Comets are right back in action tomorrow night when they play a 7 p.m. game at Lawrence Technological Institute.
