Men’s basketball team stung by Baldwin Wallace, 101-89
The Olivet College men’s basketball team fell to Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University, 101-89, tonight in its home-opener inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University, 101-89, tonight in its home-opener inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Comets took an early 12-6 lead until the Yellow Jackets fought back with a 6-0 run to tie the score at 12-12 at the 16:03 mark. The teams traded baskets until the game was tied for a fifth time at 24-24. Olivet then went on a 14-3 run to take a 38-27 lead. The Yellow Jackets responded with two triples to trail by seven points, 40-33. The Comets responded with five straight points for their largest lead of the half, 45-33, with 3:38 left before halftime.
BW came back with a 13-4 to cut its deficit down to three points. Freshman Kevin Woodson (Lambertville/Monroe St. Mary Catholic) made a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer to make the score 52-46.
The Yellow Jackets opened the second half with a 12-4 run to take their first lead, 58-56, since the 18:14 mark of the first half. Olivet answered with five straight points to regain the lead at 61-58. BW tied the game on a three-pointer and then scored five straight points to take a lead, which it did not relinquish for the remainder of the game. The Yellow Jackets' lead did not reach double figures until the final minute of the game when they made 8-of-10 foul shots.
Sophomore T.J. Vondette (Hemlock) led the Comets with 20 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the floor, including four baskets from behind the arc, and 2-of3 free throws. Freshman Tommy Cerven (Decatur) was a spark off the bench 18 points, including four triples. Junior Jordan Union (Jackson) was next with 17 points, followed by sophomore Eddie Rogers (Saginaw/Carrollton) with 11.
For BW, Kevin Krakowiak scored a game-high 26 points. Jordan Crowe and Kyle Payne each contributed 24 points. Tyler Ferrell posted a double-double with 11 points and game-high 11 rebounds.
Olivet is now off until Wednesday, Dec. 11, when it hosts Illinois Tech at 7 p.m.
