Three double figure scorers help men’s basketball team whip Illinois Tech, 95-47
Sophomore Blake Krum and junior Jared Kaczmarczyk scored career-highs to lead the Olivet College men’s basketball team to an easy 95-47 win over Illinois Institute of Technology this evening in Chicago.
CHICAGO, Ill. – Sophomore Blake Krum (Schoolcraft) and junior Jared Kaczmarczyk (Birch Run) scored career-highs to lead the Olivet College men's basketball team to an easy 95-47 win over Illinois Institute of Technology this evening in Chicago.
Krum made 6-of-8 baskets, including 4-of-5 three-pointers, for his career-best 19 points.Kaczmarczyk came off the bench to notch his career-high 14 points. Senior Garner Small(Schoolcraft) joined them in double figures with 19 points. Freshman Eddie Rogers(Saginaw/Carrollton) provided a team-leading seven rebounds.
For the game, the Comets shot a sizzling 52.2 percent (35-of-67) from the floor, including 50 percent (13-of-26) from behind the arc. Olivet also made 12-of-14 (85.7 percent) free throws. The Scarlet Hawks shot a dismal 30 percent (15-of-50) from the floor and even worse 28.6 percent (2-of-7) from behind the arc.
Olivet put the first 17 points on the scoreboard off three 3-pointers, two free throws and three jump shots. Illinois Tech scored its first point at the 14:14 mark on a free throw and made its first basket with 13:18 left before halftime.
The Comets stretched their lead to as many as 36 points, 51-15, when Krum converted 1-of-2 foul shots. The Hawks got a 3-pointer right before halftime to trail by 33 points, 51-18, at the break. In the second half, Olivet extended their lead to 55 points, 91-36. The Hawks closed the game with an 11-4 run for the final margin of defeat.
Ian Sission led Illinois Tech with 17 points, while Richard Wade had a double-double, 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Comets are back in action Wednesday evening when they host Lawrence Technological University. Tip-off at The Cutler Event Center is 7 p.m.
