McClary named MIAA MVP and first-team All-MIAA for second straight year
Senior center Michael McClary has been named the 2010-11 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Most Valuable Player and also earned first-team All-MIAA honors in men’s basketball.
Olivet College senior center Michael McClary (Bellaire) has been named the 2010-11 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Most Valuable Player and also earned first-team All-MIAA honors in men's basketball. He is receiving both honors for the second straight season. McClary is just the second player in Olivet history to repeat as the league's MVP in men's basketball, with the other being Randy Morrison in 1983 and 1984.
McClary also repeated as the MIAA scoring champion (26.3) ppg and led the league in rebounding (10.6 rpg), defensive rebounds (8.36 rpg) and minutes (36.4 mpg). Among the all-time leaders, he ends his career ranked sixth with 995 points and fourth with 568 rebounds during MIAA play.
For the entire 2010-11 season, McClary averaged a league-best 26.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He broke Olivet's single-season scoring record with 676 as well as the record for field goals made (269) and attempted (522). In addition, McClary broke Olivet's career scoring record with 1,834 points.
Under the direction of fourth-year Head Coach Gene Gifford, the Comets finished the season with a 13-13 overall record and tied for third in the MIAA standings with an 8-6 record.
