Three football players selected to the 2004 Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-North Region Team
Three football players have been named to the 2004 Don Hansen’s Football Gazette Division III All-North Region teams. Sophomore offensive guard Josh Van Laan (Caledonia/South Christian) is a first-team selection while junior tight end Josh Ewing (Hopkins) and junior offensive center Mike Pfeister (Bellevue) are third-team choices.
Three football players have been named to the 2004 Don Hansen's Football Gazette Division III All-North Region teams. Sophomore offensive guard Josh Van Laan (Caledonia/South Christian) is a first-team selection while junior tight end Josh Ewing (Hopkins) and junior offensive center Mike Pfeister (Bellevue) are third-team choices.
Van Laan, Ewing and Pfeister blocked for the Fighting Comet Wing-T offense, which led all NCAA divisions in rushing at 417.1 yards per game (ypg). Olivet also ranked among the NCAA Division III leaders in total offense at 493.1 ypg and scoring offense at 45.8 points per game. Ewing, a second-team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) pick, also caught a team-high 11 passes for 283 yards with three touchdowns. Van Laan is a two-time All-MIAA selection.
The Comets finished the 2004 season with an 8-2 overall record and tied for second in the MIAA with a 5-2 mark.
A total of 77 players were chosen for the Football Gazette All-North Region team by sports information directors from the 58 schools that sponsor football in the North Region. As a first-team selection, Van Laan will now be on a national ballot used to choose the 2004 Football Gazette All-American Team.
