OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet baseball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Trine University (Ind.), 6-4, this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first inning, the Comets scored two runs in the bottom of the frame. Junior Austin Alflen's sacrifice fly was dropped by the center fielder to allow senior Brody Parten to score the first run to score, and senior Mikey Kuzara's groundout scored senior Braden Abbott.
- Olivet increased its lead to 3-0 with a single tally in the second inning. Freshman Kyle Lockwood hit a double, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.
- The Thunder tied the game with three runs in the third inning. Trine took the lead on a solo home run in the sixth inning. Olivet answered with a run in the home half of the sixth to level the score. Lockwood ripped a double to right field, went to third on a ground out and came around to score on Parten's single.
- Both teams left a runner stranded at second base in the eighth inning. The Thunder used a single in the ninth inning to score two runs. Trine filled the bases with nobody out. The Comets escaped the inning without any more runners scoring, as two batters struck out and the last one grounded out. Olivet had runners on second and third in the home half of the ninth but failed to score a run.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet totaled six hits.
- Lockwood was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.
- Junior EJ Suggitt also went 2-for-4 with two singles.
- Senior Logan Lewis suffered the pitching loss after giving up two runs on four hits over the last two innings.
- Junior Austin Wittrock started on the mound and allowed three runs on five hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out six batters.
- Freshman Dawson Sherman yielded one run on two hits over three innings.
UP NEXT
- The Comets plays a weekend series against Calvin University. Olivet travels to play the Knights for a single, nine-inning game on Friday at 4 p.m., and then host them for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
