OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet baseball team split a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader against Hope College today at Boeve Stadium. The Comets won the first game, 8-6, in 12 innings before the Flying Dutchmen salvaged the split with a 22-1 win in the second game.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- The Comets took a 2-0 lead on a two-run double by junior EJ Suggitt in the first inning. Hope answered with a run at the bottom of the first. Olivet didn't need a hit but scored two runs in the third inning. The Comets added two more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 6-1.
- The Flying Dutchmen pushed across two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to trim their deficit down to a single run. Hope used a two-out hit in the ninth inning to score a run and send the game to extra innings.
- In the 10th inning, the Flying Dutchmen loaded the bases but failed to score a run. In the 11th inning, neither team put a runner in scoring position. In the 12th inning, seniors Will Myrick and Brody Parten drew back-to-back walks. A sacrifice bunt advanced them a base. Senior Braden Abbott was intentionally walked to fill the bases. Suggitt then lined a single into right field to score Myrick and Parten. In the home half of the inning, Hope had runners on the corners with one out. The Comets escaped the inning with a ground ball double play.
- For the game, Olivet recorded nine hits. Abbott was 3-for-5 with a double, two singles and two walks. Parten scored three runs. Suggitt tallied two hits and four RBI. Junior Logan Lewis earned the pitching win after throwing four innings of relief. Freshman Dawson Sherman started on the mound and gave up three runs on six hits, while striking out seven. Junior Austin Wittrock tossed two innings of relief.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- The Comets scored a run in the top of the first inning. Hope then scored 22 unanswered runs – 13 in the first, seven in the third and two in the fifth – to end the game.
- Olivet was held to four hits. The only extra-base hit was a double by Abbott. Junior Isaac Moore drove in the Comet run. Five pitchers combined to allow 13 earned runs on 18 hits and eight walks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With the win in game one, Olivet won back-to-back games against Hope for the first time since the 2012 season.
- The win in game one also gave the three-game series win to the Comets.

- The Comets travel to Angola, Indiana, to play Trine University on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
