MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of Olivet baseball team suffered two losses to Cairn (Pa.) University, 10-4 and 9-2, this evening at The Ripken Experience and on Griffith Field.
THE BASICS
- Final Scores: Cairn 10, Olivet 4; Cairn 9, Olivet 2

- Records: Olivet 1-10 overall, Cairn 7-2 overall
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- After Cairn scored a run in the top of first, the Comets responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Nate Droste hit a leadoff single, advanced to second on a ground out and came around to score on sophomore EJ Suggitt's triple.
- The Highlanders came back with a run in the second and three runs in the third to take a 5-1 lead. Olivet got a run back in the bottom half of the fourth when senior Mason Cook hit a solo home run. Cairn added to its lead with two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. The Comets closed the scoring with two runs in the sixth on junior Owen Smith's two-run single.
- For the game, Olivet tallied seven hits. Seven different players recorded a hit. The extra base hits were Suggitt's triple and Cook's home run. Freshman Kasey Settles suffered the pitching loss, allowing seven runs on 11 hits over the first five innings.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Highlanders jumped out to a 7-0 lead after pushing across two runs in the first and five runs in the fifth. The Comets dented the scoreboard for the first time in the sixth inning. With a pair of runners in scoring position, junior Nick Stokan brought them home with a single. Cairn capped the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth frame.
- At the plate, Olivet recorded six hits, all singles by six players. Sophomore Logan Lewis was the losing pitcher after giving up five runs on six hits over four and two-thirds innings. He struck out seven batters.
UP NEXT
- Olivet ends its spring break trip tomorrow with a doubleheader against Geneva (Pa.) College. The first pitch from game one at Griffith Field is set for 4 p.m.
