Baseball team splits doubleheader at Alma
ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team split a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader against Alma College this afternoon at Klenk Park. After losing the first game, 7-6, the Comets won the nightcap, 10-5.

ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team split a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader against Alma College this afternoon at Klenk Park. After losing the first game, 7-6, the Comets won the nightcap, 10-5.

- Both teams scored an unearned run in their half of the first inning.
- The Comets plated a run in the top half of the third.
- The Scots answered with two runs in the fifth to go up 3-2.
- Olivet responded with a two-run sixth to take the lead back.
- After Alma tied the game in the bottom of eighth, the Comets pushed across two runs in the top of ninth for a 6-4 lead.
- The Scots used four hits and two hit batters to plate three runs in the ninth to walk-off with the win.
- Olivet out-hit Alma 14-8.
- Junior James Harris and sophomore Gabriel Kirck each had three hits.
- Kirck's hits included two doubles.
- Harris drove in three runs.
- Senior Brendan Redding pitched the first eight innings but didn't factor in the decision.
- Senior Ryan Rivard allowed the runs in the ninth to be charged with the loss.
- Alma plated a run in the first inning.
- The Comets needed only three hits to score five runs in their half of the third. The big hit was a bases-clearing three-run double by senior Logan Sella.
- The Scots immediately responded with four runs in the home half of the third to level the score.
- Junior Sylas Woll and Kirck hit back-to-back doubles to score a run for Olivet in the fourth. Later in the inning, senior Ben Compton hit an RBI-single to score Kirck to make the score 7-5.
- The Comets capped their scoring with single tallies in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
- Olivet finished the game with 10 hits, with five players tallying two hits apiece.
- Sella was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. His two hits moved into tenth all-time with 136 career hits.
- Kirck had a double and a single for his two hits.
- Compton and Woll recorded two singles each for their hits.
- Senior Dayton Regier hit two doubles.
- Freshman Blake Hawkins drove in two runs.
- The Comets and Scots wrap-up the three-game series as well as well as their 2022 season tomorrow with a nine-inning game tomorrow at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
