Baseball team loses to Heidelberg, 14-4

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team fell to Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 14-4, on a sunny afternoon at the Player Development Complex in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Student Princes seized a 7-0 lead with five runs in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning. The Comets scored a run in the home half of the fourth inning. Senior Joey Myers (Holt) doubled down the left field line, went to third base on a throwing error and senior on a sacrifice fly by junior Conner Magro (Bridgman).
Heidelberg grabbed a commanding 14-1 run lead after it scored two runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth inning. Olivet got two runs back in the bottom half of the sixth when senior Dylan Betcher (Lansing/Everett) hit a two-run home run over the fence in left field. The Comets scored their final run in the ninth inning on an RBI-single by junior Nikolai Jump (Williamston).
Offensively, junior Beau Langs (Climax/Climax-Scotts) went 3-of-5 at the plate. Betcher had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Sophomore Stephen Botti (Decatur) started on the mound, allowing seven runs (three earned) on three hits in two and two-thirds innings.
Sophomore Mitch Galloway (Coldwater) also threw 2.2 innings, giving up three runs on four hits. Junior Collin McCririe (Brighton) surrendered four unearned runs in one-third of an inning. Sophomores Ryan Roeske (Warren/De La Salle) and Clark Vinton (Horton/Hanover-Horton) combined to toss three and one-third innings of scoreless relief to end the game.
Olivet (1-2) plays North Park (Ill.) University tomorrow inside Terry Park in Fort Myers, starting at 3 p.m.
