Olivet College’s Katlin named MIAA Player of the Week
Olivet College senior second baseman/pitcher Michael Katlin (Howell) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week for May 5-11. Katlin and the Comets split a pair of doubleheaders against Hope College last week.
Olivet College senior second baseman/pitcher Michael Katlin (Howell) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week for May 5-11. Katlin and the Comets split a pair of doubleheaders against Hope College last week.
In the twinbill at Hope on May 6, Katlin was 4-for-7 with two doubles and five RBI. He also started the second game on the mound, but did not factor in the decision. Katlin allowed three earned runs on five hits over four innings. In the doubleheader at Olivet on May 8, he went 6-for-8 at the plate, scored three runs and drove in six runs.
For the week, Katlin posted a .667 batting average (10-for-15) to go along with four runs scored, 11 RBI, two doubles, one home run and three walks. In addition, he played a flawless infield, committing zero errors in 18 chances.
Katlin finished the season with a .384 batting average. He collected 28 hits, 13 runs scored, eight doubles and 22 RBI.
Olivet ended the 2008 season with a 17-23 overall record and 15-13 MIAA mark. The Comets were third in the final league standings, which was their highest finish in five seasons.
