Baseball team loses to Oakland, 14-1
The Olivet College baseball team dropped a 14-1 decision to Oakland University this afternoon at the OU Baseball Field in Rochester.

The Olivet College baseball team dropped a 14-1 decision to Oakland University this afternoon at the OU Baseball Field in Rochester.
Oakland (9-16) led 11-0 with a two-run first inning and a nine-run third inning. The Comets (10-9) scored their run in the fourth inning. Sophomore Cody Goodell (Davison) reached first base on an error by the second base. Back-to-back groundouts moved him up to third base. An infield single by senior Nate Rann (Laingsburg) scored Goodell. The Grizzlies answered with a run in their half of the fourth. They closed the scoring by pushing two runs across the plate in the eighth inning.
At the plate, seven Olivet players each had a base hit. All seven hits were singles. On the mound, senior Brian Schaeffer (Mason) was tagged with the loss. He started and pitched two innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Six relievers combined to give up 12 hits and 10 runs.
The Comets resume Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play Thursday afternoon when they host Alma College for a doubleheader, beginning at 2 p.m. The teams will complete the MIAA series Saturday with a doubleheader at Alma's Klenk Park at 1 p.m.
