The Fighting Comets scored first on a two-run single in the second inning by sophomore Stan Cieslak (Troy Avondale High School). Aquinas battled back with a run in bottom half of the inning. In the third inning, the Saints took advantage of two Olivet errors to score four unearned runs. The Comets were able to get one run back in the eighth inning. In the game, Olivet left eight runners stranded.
Offensively, Cieslak was two-for-two for the Comets. Six other players had a base hit apiece. On the mound, freshman Brian Schaeffer (Mason High School) suffered the loss. He allowed seven hits and five runs (one earned) while striking out three in two and two-thirds innings of work. In relief, freshman Brad Dragicevich (Kalamazoo Central High School) gave-up three hits in three and two-thirds innings. Freshman Derek Ott (Kawkawlin Bay City Western) pitched the last inning and two-thirds, allowing one hit.
Olivet will resume Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play this Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, at home against Calvin College. The teams will play a nine-inning game on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by two seven-inning contests on Saturday at 1 p.m.
