Baseball Team Falls to Alma College, 4-3
The Olivet College baseball team fell to Alma College, 4-3, today in the opener of a three-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series. The Comets and Scots will play a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College baseball team fell to Alma College, 4-3, today in the opener of a three-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series. The Comets and Scots will play a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
Olivet (6-12, 0-4 MIAA) jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first inning on a two-run single by freshman third baseman Stan Cieslak (Troy Avondale High School). Alma (4-10, 1-3 MIAA) then tallied two unearned runs in the fifth inning and the game-winning run in the eighth inning.
Both Cieslak and senior shortstop Steve Held (Brampton, Ontario/Saint Augustine) had two base hits for the Comets. Held drove in the other Olivet run in the first inning. On the mound, junior Josh Kellogg (Morley/Stanwood High School) was the losing pitcher. He tossed the first seven and one-third innings, allowing one earned run and striking nine batters. In relief, junior D.J. Celetti (Sault Ste. Marie, Canada/Notre Dame) struck out three batters.
Following its doubleheader tomorrow, Olivet will host Rochester College in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 13 at 1 p.m. Next Friday-Saturday, April 18-19, the Comets will travel to play Calvin College in a MIAA series.
