Five UOlivet track and field student-athletes compete at last chance meets
OLIVET, Mich. – Over the last eight days, five members of The University of Olivet men's and women's track & field teams have competed in four last chance meets – two in Illinois and two in Michigan.
On Wednesday, May 7, sophomore Owen Fremeau and freshman Yrral Campbell participated in the Hillsdale College Last Chance Meet. Fremeau fouled on his three attempts in the hammer throw and was 14th in the discus throw (135 feet, 4 inches). Campbell finished ninth in the discus throw (144 feet, 2 inches).
On Saturday, May 10, sophomore Luke Leighton and senior London Eldridge traveled to Joliet, Illinois, for the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invitational. Both ran in the 400-meter hurdles. Leighton was ninth (59.67), while Eldridge was fourth (1:04.40).
On Sunday, May 11, Fremeau and Campbell stayed in Michigan for the Grand Valley State University Last Chance Meet. Fremeau posted a fifth-place throw of 54 feet, 2-1/2 inches in the shot put, 10th-place toss of 168 feet in the hammer and 12th-place throw in the discus (145 feet, 1 inch). Campbell did not make a legal mark in the discus.
On Wednesday, May 15, Leighton and Eldridge competed in the 400-meter hurdles at the Augustana (Ill.) College Midwest Twilight Final Qualifier. Leighton ran a personal best time of 56.77 seconds, which is the sixth-fastest time in UOlivet history. Eldridge finished eighth with her second-fastest time ever in the 400 hurdles at 1:04.29. Also, senior Morgan Jeffries competed in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, clocking-in at 12.68 and 25.97, respectively.
Today, Fremeau and Campbell participated in the Augustana Final Qualifier. Both were in the discus, with Fremeau placing seventh (156 feet, 8 inches) and Campbell placing 18th (149 feet, 8 inches). Fremeau also competed in the shot put and was 22nd (45 feet, 8 inches).
The field for the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be posted on ncaa.com tomorrow by 8 p.m. The top 22 performances in each event will be invited to compete at the championships next Thursday-Saturday, May 22-24 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. As of the time of this release at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Fremeau is ranked No. 18 in the shot put.
