Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - January 8, 2024

The Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is senior Lily Connelly, of Grant Township, and graduate of Crosswell-Lexington High School. Connelly averaged 9.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists in five games for the women’s basketball team. Her best game of the stretch was an 18 point, eight rebound and five assist performance in a win over Rockford (Ill.). Connelly was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Smokey Ballenger Classic.

The Dean Trailways Male Comet of the Week is freshman Conner Schipper, of Holland, and graduate of Zeeland East High School. Schipper averaged 10 points and 7.8 rebounds over six games for the men’s basketball team. He had a double-double in three of the games – 10 points and 11 rebounds against St. Norbert (Wis.), 14 points and 10 rebounds against Wisconsin-Superior, and 12 points and 10 rebounds against Trine (Ind.). For the six games, Schipper posted a 41.1 field goal percentage and recorded 15 blocks.

These Comets of the Week are based on a student-athlete’s performance in competitions from December 18-January 7.
